Biodiesel: emissions

[back]

Funding: TEKES, Ecocat Oy, Neste Oil Oyj, Sisudiesel Oy, Preseco Oy
Coordination: University of Kuopio, Fine Particle and Aerosol Technology Laboratory
Alternative biofuels for compression ignition engines. Influence of fuel on emissions and health.

This project provides new information for Finnish diesel fuel producers and manufacturers of emission after-treatment systems about the risks and benefits associated with their products. The emphasis is on comparative assessment of the effects of different fuels, such as conventional diesel and different biodiesels, and after-treatment systems on the emissions from a diesel engine.

Biodiesel: health

[back]

Funding: TEKES, Ecocat Oy, Neste Oil Oyj, Sisudiesel Oy, Preseco Oy
Coordination: National Institute for Health and Welfare
Chemical composition and health risks of emissions from a diesel engine operating on biodiesel

The aim of this project is to add a toxicological component to the Biodiesel: emissions project. This projects comprises a comparison of the toxicity of emissions from diesel engines operating on different conventional and biofuels, and estimation of the net health effect of the observed variations in the diesel particulate matter emissions in the urban environment.

BIOHER

[back]

Funding: Academy of Finland
Coordination: National Institute for Health and Welfare
Biomass and fuel oil in heating systems: greenhouse gas and particle emissions and health risks

Aims: To asses environmental, climate and health effects of biomass and fuel oil using heating systems.

BIOSAFE

[back]

Funding: TEKES
Coordination: VTT
Biowaste to power plants at high portions

Aims: Increase the energy-use of waste derived biomass fuels in power production. The role of UKU is to develop in-furnace aerosol sampling techniques.

NanoPoltto

[back]

Funding: TEKES-EAKR
Coordination: University of Kuopio, Fine Particle and Aerosol Technology Laboratory
NanoPoltto

The project aims to develop effective nano-sized additives for solving ash-related problems in biomass combustion.

PELLETime

[back]

Funding: Northern periphery programme
Coordination: Karelia University of Applied Sciences
Solutions for competitive pellet production in medium size enterprises

Aims: Survey on possibilities for small scale pellet production in the northern areas. The role of UKU is to study the flue gas emissions and applicability of pellets produced in small production units

PUPO-poltto

Funding: TEKES
Coordination: University of Kuopio, Fine Particle and Aerosol Technology Laboratory
Particulate emissions and health: Chemistry-toxicology model for small scale appliances with different combustion techniques.

Polttotekniikaltaan erilaisten puun pienpolttolaitteiden hiukkaspäästöt ja terveys: Kemia-toksisuusmalli.

The focus is to create a model for predicting how the type of residential wood combustion appliance, operation practices and fuel affect physicochemical and toxicological properties of particle emission.
